Can I pay for my driving lessons by card? Yes, you can. You can pay through the driving lesson prices page When can I start to learn to drive? You can apply for your provisional driving licence when you are 16, and you can have your first driving lesson on your 17th birthday. If you are getting Disability Living Allowance at a higher rate, you can start when you are 16 How much do you charge for driving lessons? One of the most common questions when looking for a Driving Instructor. Our prices can be found on the driving lesson prices page. You may be considering the Instructor who has quoted you the cheapest price - ask yourself (and them!) why they are cheaper; It may well be because they are a new Instructor who needs the work, or a trainee Instructor (PDI), or they have an older & less reliable car. What is the difference between a Trainee Driving Instructor Trainee Instructors (PDI - Potential Driving Instructor) can be granted a temporary licence to teach while they finish the training for the test of their ability to instruct. This licence normally lasts 6 months. A fully qualified Driving Instructor (ADI - Approved Driving Instructor) has passed all the relevant tests. A PDI will have to display a pink certificate in the window while teaching, while an ADI has to show their green certificate. Without either of these, or one that has expired, a person can not legally take money for driving lessons. Below is an example of what they look like.
How long are the driving lessons? That's entirely up to you. The advantage of a longer driving lesson, is that you can cover more, and go further. The shorter lessons work well if your time is limited. We recommend that most people have either 1 1/2 hours, or 2 hours. How long will it take me to pass? According to the DSA the national average is 46 hours with a Driving Instructor, and 22 hours of private practice. However, everyone is different, and the time taken will normally depend on your experience and confidence. Hourly driving lessons, or an intensive course? The advantage of an intensive course is that it's all done in a relatively short space of time, with the test at the end. However, if you have a full time job, or college to attend, you might find a few hours a week more suitable. Our contact details are on the Driving Instructor page, feel free to contact us with any queries. What is the DSA's Code Of Conduct? The DSA and the driving instruction industry place great emphasis on professional standards and business ethics. The code of practice has been agreed between DSA and the main bodies representing Driving Instructors; it is a framework within which all instructors should operate. Your driving licence is automatically revoked if you build up six or more penalty points within two years of passing your first driving test. This includes any penalty points you had before passing the test, which are still valid. You will have to reapply for your driving licence, and retake your theory and driving tests. How does a Driving Instructor becomes fully qualified? To become an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor), a person needs to:
If you are considering training to become a driving instructor, one piece of advice is to research it well, don't listen too much to the large instructor training companies. 2 good forums to look up are www.adiforum.co.uk and www.2pass.co.uk.
