If you’re fed up of relying on waiting forever at a bus stop for the next bus, relying on lifts from friends or walking and cycling everywhere then maybe it’s time to start learning to drive…
So, whether you are a complete beginner, need extra lessons after a recently failed driving test, or would like to take your driving skills further after gaining your full licence, I can help. At the moment, I don’t offer automatic driving lessons, but it is something that may be possible in the future. So for now, if you would like to learn to drive a car with a manual gearbox, please get in touch. You can use the contact details at the top of the page, or the quickest way is to fill out the contact form below.

The Path To Your Full Driving Licence…
The very first step you’ll need to take to drive a car on your own, is to apply for your provisional driving licence. You can do this online or by post using a D1 form (available from any Post Office) no earlier than 3 months before your 17th birthday. Once you are 17, and have your provisional licence, you can start your driving lessons. Generally, it’s better to start the lessons first, as your Instructor will be able to help you revise for your theory test. Once you have passed the theory test, you can look forward to the driving test. Finally, once you have proved that you can drive safely, the Driving Examiner will issue you with a Pass Certificate, and a few weeks later your new full licence will arrive through the post! To find out more about driving licences, take a look at the driving licence FAQ.
If you are looking to pass your driving test quickly, then an intensive course may be ideal for you. The training can be spread over a few weeks, or a few months, depending on your requirements. This means you can fit them around other work, school of family commitments.
If you’ve already passed your driving test and would like to brush up on any area of your driving, a few hours may help improve your confidence. Whether it’s rush hour driving around Essex, motorways (like the M11 and M25), parking or any kind of post test driving problems, I can help. Another option is to take a Pass Plus course, or one of the many advanced driving tests.
Under 17s Driving Lessons
The RPL Driving School is also involved in the Young Driver’s Scheme. It’s purpose is to provide driving lessons for people under 17, based in the Earl Colne Business Park, between Chelmsford and Colchester. Take a look at the under 17s driving page for more information. Another alternative is the newly started Sandon YDS. Between the 2 of these, you can learn to drive while under 17 if you live in areas such as Chelmsford, Brentwood, Witham, Billericay and other nearby places in Essex.
